Laying on Hands

Praying and laying hands on young leaders going to serve in Japan
at MB Mission Intercession Retreat in Saskatoon Jan. 23-25, 2014

LifeJournal.cc had us reading Leviticus and Acts recently. As I read about the process of sacrificing animals I was barely engaged with the text. But then I got to the New Testament and the passage was about laying on hands to bless Paul and Barnabas for their missionary travels.

Then I recalled that in Leviticus, that some of the animal sacrifices were preceded by laying hands on the head of the animal.

It was a reminder that the Old Testament points towards the new and to Christ. No longer do we need to sacrifice. But when we lay hands on a leader to bless them, in essence we are reminding them and everyone else that they have given their lives for Kingdom, for the ministry of reconciliation. Leadership is sacrificial.
