Spiritual Suffering - Gotta Love it

Last week our TREK training explored the theology of suffering. I don’t like suffering… not personally nor seeing a loved one’s suffering. Suffering triggers my sympathies which activates a response toward seeking relief. Yet the call of Jesus is to ‘take up our cross and follow him,’ — a road marked by suffering. How should I relate to suffering?

We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.” - Romans 5:3-5

Paul’s encouragement to the Roman church was to allow God to meet them in and through their trials in order to produce a Spirit-filled life of love! Easily said, tougher to live. Pray for Carol and I as we train young disciples to sit in the tension of trials and allow God to develop their character and confidence in God’s Spirit and love!

Recently, you may have seen a video produced by the Mennonite Brethren Conference of Manitoba (MBCM) where I share my mountain climbing experience with depression. Mood disorders are a common ‘suffering’ for many people. This short resource is available at Taking the Mountain.

Our team was so blessed to host our counter-part team from Fresno California this week for DNA exchange and resourcing each other regarding training programs.

Carol and I are thankful for your support as we serve the churches of Central Canada to multiply healthy disciples and mission leaders. We need more partners, so please join us in this vital ministry of training up a generation disciple-makers. Monthly pledges are valued most, though one time gifts are always appreciated.  Thank you!
